ABOUT
After a childhood and young adulthood spent in Asia and Europe, I moved to the United States to finally experience the country whose passport I had traveled under for so many years.
Professionally, I have walked the boards of the opera stage, taught English to Korean diplomats, worked in a luxury hotel, house-parented delinquent youth, served in the United States Air Force as a linguist and admin assistant, worked retail, and filled both the roles of prep cook and hostess in a major chain restaurant.
Personally, I have raised and homeschooled six children, including one who was profoundly mentally and physically handicapped. As a homeschool teacher, I have undertaken several major volunteer endeavors, information about which can be found under Projects.
In my spare time, I enjoy hanging out with my kiddos and participating in their activities, reading, watching Edmonton Oilers hockey, and dabbling on my website and its Instagram.

Skills
Multi-tasking
Raising and homeschooling a large family, managing a co-op school, working in a commercial kitchen, and other jobs have all helped train my brain to function on multiple levels simultaneously. I also, for fifteen years until her passing, cared for my profoundly disabled eldest daughter, meeting all of her many physical and medical needs while also raising and educating her five siblings.
Rapport with People
I genuinely love people. It is difficult to say which job of mine I have loved the most because, for me, the people always make the job. Whether that involved children or the elderly, people of any walk of life or nationality, I always find common cause and build rapport.
Cultural Sensitivity
Because of my parent's teachings and living the first half of my life overseas, I have encountered and feel comfortable around people from all across the globe, from all socio-economic backgrounds, and who practice any religion.
Foreign Languages
At one point in time, I was conversationally fluent in German, Italian, and Spanish. Learning languages has always come fairly easily to me. Currently, I am teaching myself Scottish Gaelic. If language ability would help in a job I am offered, I would diligently apply myself to that task.
Writing Ability
I am slowly, as work and family allow, working towards a degree in history. Research and writing are things about which I am passionate. Whether the need is a concise technical report or a more emotive blog piece --- or anything in between -- I enjoy any opportunity to write.
Website Savvy
I have built three websites on Wix, each with a unique design and different features: this digital CV, a whole-book homeschooling site, and an unpublished site that might serve as a business plan one day for the cafe/youth hostel I dream of opening.
Social Media Savvy
Recently, I began dabbling in SEO on my homeschooling website's Instagram. I have also made a list of different posting strategies to implement. I had to take a break due to increased work commitments, but I was amazed by how quickly and easily I built traffic. While there are definitely better job candidates out there for a job that does only social media, I feel it is an added something I could bring to the table in many job situations.
Teaching
I love teaching and would like to do so on the university level one day. I have taught English to Korean diplomats in Seoul; job skills in hotel, retail and restaurant environments; vocal and theater skills to adults and kids; and every subject under the sun to students from Kindergarten through 12th grade. Every day, I learn new things, and I share that passion for lifelong learning with everyone I meet in every setting.
Self-Starter/Motivated
Never one to stand around, I am generally the one who finds what needs doing and gets on with it. If I need help, I ask, as doing a quality job is important to me. I am easily motivated because I enjoy a good challenge and am unlikely to get discouraged or overwhelmed. Easy and "boring" tasks I tend to dispatch quickly in order to free up time for creativity in another task.
Leadership
Leadership fascinates me. It is such a living thing. I have worked with some outstanding leaders whom I have then consciously emulated in my turn. I both enjoy working under great leaders and feel that I have learned to become a strong leader myself. I am comfortable leading both when appointed and when there is a situation that calls for someone to step up and step into the breach.

Projects
As my personal and job history reflects, I have held a wide variety of jobs. I have also been incredibly blessed to have lived a life on multiple continents, among people of a plethora of cultures, religious affiliations, languages, and worldviews. The knowledge and skills that those experiences have given me have been funneled into projects
within the homeschool community. Although all of these projects have been purely volunteer, homeschooling
my children -- and others in the community -- has been my full-time "job" for almost twenty years;
I have taken it seriously and have seen bringing my talents to the community as a calling.
